Campiello Literary Prize
Now marking its forty-fifth anniversary, the prize has been, since 1963, one of the highlights of the Venice cultural season. On Saturday, September 1^st (a week earlier than its traditional date), the award ceremony is to take place in a gala evening at the Fenice Theatre, when the coveted literary prize (established by the Veneto Industrials) will be handed out.

The winner will be selected live by a jury of 300 readers out of the five writers in the short-list selected earlier by a jury of literati. The president of that latter jury this year is an illustrious personality, and for the first time this year in the Campiello history a non-Italian, the Spanish-native Joaquin Navarro-Valls, who served as the Vatican spokesman for many years. The event (parteciapation by invitation only) will be broadcast (with slight deferment) on RAI Television.
