Correr Museum - 800 Rarely-Shown 19th Century Venetian Drawing

Correr Museum:  800 Rarely-Shown 19th – Century Venetian Drawings

An exhibition that is part of a program for promoting the art treasures of the Venice Civic Museums Foundation presenting in the museum main hall and exhibition areas on the second floor a group of 19th-century drawings, most ofthem never shown before.

Among the works, all of them focusing or inspired by Venice and its monumental and social aspects, are drawings by Giacomo Guardi, son of the great 18th-Century vedutista (city-scape painter), engraver and illustrator Giovanni Pividor, the famous vedutista Ippolito Caffi, Flemish artist Francois Vervloet, street portraitist Giacomo Bosa, and by Luigi Quarena who specialized in singular genre in a short but successful career: panoramas, particular perspective views of cities, landscapes and historical events.

The museum collection is accompanied, courtesy of a private collector, a group of hitherto unshown pencil drawings by Giacomo Favretto, a curious fresco of city life created by scenes captured surreptitiously in Venetian cafés. Coordinator Giandomenico Romanelli
