Rosalba Carriera : First European woman painter
Back with an important solo show is the Venetian 18th century painter considered the most important Italian woman artist of her time. Organized by the Institute of Art History at the Giorgio Cini Foundation and made possible thanks to the collaboration of important museums as well as private and public collections, the show offers a group of pastels, miniatures and drawings, all focusing on the subject for which the artist became famous: portraiture.
The exhibition introduction, with two celebrated works – Self-Portrait (from the Uffizi Galleries) and Girl with Dove (San Luca Academy) – is followed by “Rosalba and European Rulers”, “Rosalba and the British”, “ Paris Sojourn”, “Ecclesiastic Portraits” and “Allegories”.
