A reflection on climate change and social distancing through paintings and sculptural installations made with recycled materials embellished with gold leaf and Murano glass Oak wood discarded after the making of a forcola (the typical support of Venetian rowing boats), maps of islands about to be submerged, pieces of recovered Murano glass are the materials that the artist Andreas Philippopoulos-Mihalopoulos has chosen in order to tackle such delicate and current issues, as climate change and the social distance caused by the pandemic. The series of paintings and sculptural installations were created by the artist between Venice and London. The surfaces are painted with colours that recall water reflections and then embellished with gold leaf. The title of the exhibition recalls the sense of emptiness and distance that separated us during the pandemic, which in Venice became filled by water. This thus becomes a means of union and dialogue and once again recalls the primary element that characterises the Venetian capital and on which the effects of climate change have an even greater impact. In the paintings, a way out is proposed by the staircases, meant to be a sign of contained optimism for the future. A catalogue is available with critical texts by Dr Lucy Reynolds and David West, and a short story by the artist. Bio Andreas Philippopoulos-Mihalopoulos Andreas Philippopoulos-Mihalopoulos is a visual and performance artist, theoretical academic and fiction author, living between London and Venice and teaching at The University of Westminster and the Royal College of Art. His work was presented at the 58th Venice Biennale of Art 2019, the 16th Venice Architecture Biennale 2016, the Metaverse Virtual Biennale 2021, the Tate Modern, the MAAT in Lisbon, the Inhotim Instituto de Arte Contemporânea Brazil, the Arebyte Gallery in London and Danielle Arnaud Gallery, amongst others. From May 1st, no more mask at the hotel

From May 1st the use of the mask in the hotel for guests is optional, a further loosening of the restrictions in addition to the elimination of the green pass from April 1st. Furthermore, in bars and restaurants the mask and the green certificate are no more required, even if you eat or drink indoors. In this way, you will be able to spend a freer, nonetheless safe stay in Venice: we will continue to carry out a deep cleaning and sanitization of rooms and common areas (also through the use of an atomizer). Enjoy Venice Until June 15th you must wear a ffp2 mask to move with public transport. The mask is also still required if you participate to indoor events in theaters, cinemas, entertainment venues and it is still recommended in case of gatherings. Due to the increase in visitors, to improve your experience in Venice, the Municipality is evaluating the possibility of setting up quota entrances with fees. These measures will NOT be applicable to hotel guests. However, the regulations are still being defined, read our news to stay updated.

The Biennale Arte is the most important exhibition dedicated to contemporary art that takes place in town. ostponed due to the pandemic, this year the appointment with the 59th International Art Exhibition finally returns from April 23rd to November 27th 2022 (pre-opening April 20th, 21st and 22nd). Venice Biennale since 1895 The first International Art Exhibition in Venice was organized in 1895: since then every two years (from this derives the term "biennial") the Venetian capital hosts for about seven months the works of artists from all over the world. The first building that hosted the exhibition was the current Central Pavilion at the Giardini in the Castello district, still home to the main exhibition of the event. The Venice Biennale has always been considered an international showcase for new trends in contemporary art and an unmissable event for professionals. Biennale Arte 2022: The milk of dreams From April 23rd to November 27th Venice hosts the 59th edition of the international art exhibition, curated for the first time by a woman, Cecilia Alemani. The theme "The milk of dreams" comes from the title of a children's book created by the surrealist Leonora Carrington (1917-2011) which tells of a magical world in constant transformation. «This exhibition» - as Cecilia Alemani stated - «is grounded in many conversations with artists held in the last few years: the questions that kept emerging from these dialogues seem to capture this moment in history when the very survival of the species is threatened, but also to sum up many other inquiries that pervade the sciences, arts, and myths of our time. How is the definition of the human changing? What constitutes life, and what differentiates plant and animal, human and non-human? What are our responsibilities towards the planet, other people, and other life forms? And what would life look like without us? These are some of the guiding questions for this edition of the Biennale Arte, which focuses on three thematic areas in particular: “the representation of bodies and their metamorphoses”; “the relationship between individuals and technologies”; “the connection between bodies and the Earth”.» 213 artists from 58 countries, 180 of these are participating for the first time, 1.433 are the works and objects on display, and 80 new projects. These are the numbers of the Venice Biennale 2022 which, as usual, will animate the Venetian capital by offering exhibitions and collateral events at the Central Pavilion in the Giardini, the Arsenale and in many other locations. More freedom from April 1st and the usual safe stay

Starting from April 1st 2022, the green pass is not required to stay at the hotel; in fact, as the general situation is improving, the Italian government has finally decided to loosen some anti-covid restrictions. Safe stay Starting from April 1st, guests can stay at the hotel without presenting the Green Pass, but we still want to guarantee a stay in total safety. Therefore, we will continue to carry out a thorough cleaning and sanitization of rooms and common areas (also through the use of an atomizer). The relaxation of the restrictions allows us to restore some of the services that we had to reorganize or suspend to comply with the Italian regulations. You can then enjoy our rich breakfast buffet again, take advantage of the Turkish bath (for exclusive use only), enjoy the couverture service and use the kettles in the tea corners in the common areas. Please note that you need to wear a mask to move inside the hotel. Enjoy Venice Your experience in Venice will also be freer. Also from 1st April, the Green Pass is not required to move with public transport, although it remains necessary to wear an FFP2 mask during the trip, and it is possible to have lunch or dinner indoors by presenting only the basic Green pass. Both measures expire on May 1st. To eat or drink outdoors, green certification is no longer required, so you can enjoy cicheti and aperitifs from La Rivista Wine Bar at the tables overlooking Rio Terà Foscarini in total freedom.
The rational furniture design in Italy 1928-1949

After the exhibition “Il '900 Ritrovato” in 2019, the Ca' Pisani Design Hotel is renewing its collaboration with the dealer, antiquarian and expert connoisseur of the twentieth century, the Bolognese Maurizio Marzadori (already known for his private collection of children's furniture and vintage toys) and presenting for the first time to the public a significant corpus of furnishings and accessories: the result of over thirty years of work and research on Italian Rationalist furniture. Today this material is at the centre of the exhibition curated by Valerio Borgonuovo and by Marzadori himself. Italian Rationalism originated in 1928 with the founding of the Italian Movement for Rational Architecture (MIAR) by a new generation of architects from the Milan Polytechnic and in the span of twenty years it expressed all the conflicting views towards new Modernist Architecture which resulted in a questioning of the absolute value of those models, while at the same time by adapting them to a local and national style. On this premise, the movement operated a lot on a theoretical level, also and above all through the numerous sector magazines born in those years: Rassegna Italiana, La Casa Bella (later renamed Casabella with Giuseppe Pagano as director), Domus founded in 1928 by Giò Ponti, Quadrante and Edilizia Moderna; as well as on an operative level with works in architecture and furniture. The movement’s relationship with Fascism is ambivalent, controversial and at last irreconcilable (but for all that, undeniably productive) and thus with the architectural representation of a new society founded on that ideology. The entry into an autarchic regime around 1936, not only made inevitable but rather accelerated the process of participation of new designers in the identification of new techniques, materials (and respective applications) such as reinforced concrete, linoleum, stratified, solid and curved wood, steel pipes and profiles, light alloys, straw, rope, etc. A process that generated extraordinary combinations between designer and producer thanks also to the contribution of enlightened companies such as A. L. Colombo - Mobili Razionali Columbus, Cova, Maggioni, Olivetti, Palini, Antonio Parma and Figli (Pas), Pino, Rima, Valabrega, and others again, whose contribution in those years in defining the figure of the architect-interior designer will be fundamental. Figini and Pollini, Mucchi, Nizzoli, Pagano, Palanti, Ponti, Rambaldi, and Terragni are only some of the authors of the over sixty works selected among the main protagonists of that experience, alternating with authors of works of equal quality but still in the identification phase, within that suggestive vertical transatlantic of the early twentieth century that is precisely today the Hotel Ca' Pisani, a real Art Deco gem enclosed within the late fourteenth-century walls of its historic building. To those works a selection of office objects, knick-knacks, and toys (already part of the private collection of children's furniture and vintage toys of Maurizio Marzadori) added, which, in decreeing their rank of their true style, make this rare retrospective on Italian Rationalism an even more unique opportunity to get to know an extraordinary collection like this with the firm Freak Andò by Maurizio Marzadori in Bologna, now for the first time on display. At the same time, this exhibition also gives the opportunity to deepen a page in the history of Italian furniture which, more than a century after its writing, proves capable of still offering ample scope for research and surprise. Carnival: Venetian Frittelle

The Venice Carnival is one of most appreciated traditional events in the world. Every year Venetians and tourists flock to the historic center to participate in the unmissable appointments of the official program (for more information visit the website www.carnevale.venezia.it). From the day after the Epiphany, the shop windows of pastry shops and bakeries showcase frittelle and galani (or chat). The Venetian frittelle are characterized by a soft dough with the addition of raisins, but you can also try those stuffed with cream, zabaglione, chocolate, pistachio and more: now every pastry chef indulges in offering his customers creative variations. Venetian Frittelle: the recipe Frittelle is a Carnival dessert that can be easily replicated even at home. This is why we asked the chef of the La Caravella Restaurant, one of the historical and most picturesque places in Venice owned by the Serandrei family in the San Marco district, for help and he revealed the procedures to follow step by step. Have fun and have a good Carnival! Ingredients 500 gr 0 flour for cakes 75 gr granulated sugar 100 gr sultanas 50 gr pine nuts 50 gr candied citrons 2 eggs 20 ml grappa 30 gr brewer's yeast Vanilla sugar to taste 1 lemon (zest only) 1 orange (zest only) 150 ml of water Salt to taste Frying oil (peanuts) Method Pour the flour into a bowl, the granulated sugar and the diluted yeast in the center of a glass of warm water, start kneading by adding the eggs and the rest of the water until you get a tender mixture. The raisins should be soaked to hydrate in the grappa and then combined with all the rest of the ingredients (the pine nuts should be slightly crumbled) work well for 15 minutes. Then let the dough rest for two to three hours. Bring the oil to 160 °C and with a spoon shape like walnuts fry until it becomes golden brown. With a skimmer bring the frittelle and put on absorbent paper and then sprinkle the Vanilla icing sugar.

The situation in Italy regarding Covid infections and hospitalizations is improving and finally from 11 February it is no longer necessary to wear a mask outdoors. You will still need to have it in your pocket and wear it in case of crowds. It remains the obligation to wear the mask in indoor public places at least until March 31st, 2022. Super Green Pass in hotel and to experience the city Starting from January 10th 2022 the Super Green Pass (achieved by vaccination or recovery) is required to stay at the hotel, an extra guarantee to make your stay safe (for further information about the Green Pass please read this article). This certification is not currently required for children under the age of 12. The validity of the Super Green Pass allows you free access to all hotel services, including breakfast. From January 10th 2022 all guests staying at the hotel must exhibit their Super Green Pass From Monday December 6th all our guests had to show the basic Green Pass (EU Digital Covid Certificate) at the time of check-in, starting from January 10th 2022 the Super one is required (achieved only by vaccination or recovery): an extra guarantee that is added to what has been done in recent months to make your stay safe (sanitizing and thorough cleaning of the rooms and common areas, distancing and reorganization of services). This certification is not currently required for children under the age of 12. What is the Green Pass and how to get it The Basic Green Pass, in digital or paper format, certifies one of the following conditions: have had the anti COVID-19 vaccination be negative on the rapid molecular within the past 48 hours or molecular test within the past 72 hours be cured of COVID-19 in the past six months. The reinforced (or super) Green Pass is instead achieved only by vaccination or recovery Both contain a QR Code, to verify its authenticity and validity, which are scanned by our staff at check-in through a special app installed on a smartphone. We all feel very responsible both for our family business, as in addition to Ca' Pisani my family has been managing the Hotel Saturnia & Internazionale ****S since 1908, and for the future of our many employees, so we have decided to temporarily stop the daily activity of the Ca’ Pisani hotel. Madonna della Salute Festivity

On November 21st Venetians celebrate the Feast of the Madonna della Salute The Feast of the Madonna della Salute is one of the traditional Venetian festivities and is celebrated every year on November 21st. It commemorates the thanks of the entire city to the Madonna for the end of a terrible plague that struck Venice between 1630 and 1631, an epidemic also described by Alessandro Manzoni in its Promessi Sposi book. Having no weapons to defeat her, the Doge and the Patriarch asked for divine help, organizing a procession of prayers to the Madonna for three consecutive days and nights and vowing to erect a votive temple if the city had survived. Luckily, in November 1631 the epidemic subsided: the promises were followed by setting up an annual thanksgiving procession and building the famous Basilica della Salute in the territory of the Dogana da Mar. The votive bridge of the Madonna della Salute Every year Venetians usually go to the Madonna della Salute church to pay homage and pray. To facilitate the pilgrimage, a temporary bridge on boats is set up between Santa Maria del Giglio and Punta della Dogana, joining the Sestiere di San Marco with that of Dorsoduro respectively. The bridge remains open for a few days to facilitate the flow of the faithful. Tradition and cuisine: the castradina The Basilica della Salute on the occasion of this holiday extends its opening hours. In the square there are stands where you can buy candles to pay homage to the Madonna, as well as sweets, balloons and games for children. Tradition also says that a typical dish is tasted in homage to the Dalmatians, who during the period of isolation due to the great plague were the only ones to supply the city with food: the "Castradina", a tasty soup made from salted, smoked and then seasoned mutton leg with cabbage and onions.
La Regata Storica (Historical Regatta)

The Regata Storica (Historical Regatta) is one of the favorite events of Venetians and is the main appointment of the local rowing competitions. It is scheduled every year on the first Sunday of September and attracts residents and tourists to the historic center. The program includes a splendid water parade with typical boats and figures in costume, which is followed by various competitions along the Grand Canal (for the occasion it is closed to water traffic). The historical regatta has very ancient origins. The first visual image of the event is present in the "Plan of Venice" (1500) by Jacopo de' Barbari, but the first written records date back to the thirteenth century, linked in some way to the Festa delle Marie (The feast of the Marys). Since then many painters have chosen the regatta as the subject of their works, including the famous Canaletto. Water parade The most spectacular part of the event is the historical parade. The "Bissona Serenissima" and other typical Venetian boats parade along the Grand Canal with figures in costume, including the Doge, the Dogaressa and all the highest offices of the Venetian Republic, re-evoking the glorious past of Venice. The competitions At the end of the historical parade, the Venetian rowing competitions begin: first those reserved for children, then the others follow one another, to end with twin-oared mascarete and gondolini led by the best Venetian rowers who have handed down this passion for generations. The Gondolino, in particular, was built exclusively for the historical regatta and was used for the first time in 1825; thanks to its lightness it makes competitions more exciting and faster.

Summer is inevitably associated with sun, sea, beach ... If you think that this is not possible in a city of art, reality is different: in 20 minutes by vaporetto boat from the Zattere pier near our hotel) you can reach Lido di Venezia, an island with beautiful beaches, as well as home to the renowned Venice Film Festival, the longest-running film festival in the world which was first held in 1932. About 12 kilometers long, Lido di Venezia is bathed by the lagoon on one side and by the Adriatic Sea on the other, and bordered by the lighthouses of San Nicolò (towards Punta Sabbioni) and of Alberoni (towards the island of Pellestrina). In the north of the island there is also a small tourist airport, Nicelli, the oldest commercial airport in Italy, inaugurated in 1935 and among the ten most beautiful airports in the world according to a ranking drawn up by the BBC in 2014 by Jonathan Glancey. Lido di Venezia: the beach of the Venetians Lido is also the beach of the Venetians. When the warm season approaches, the residents of the island and the historic center organize themselves by renting the "capanne" (huts): large cabins with veranda and awning, very often shared by various families to amortize seasonal costs. This is how the fine golden sand dunes come alive during the hottest months of the year and become also a destination for commuters who take advantage of the various bathing establishments to rent umbrellas and deck chairs or to enjoy the free beach. The center of the island is full of Art Nouveau buildings and green areas: a walk along the main street, called Gran Viale Santa Maria Elisabetta, which can be accessed from the vaporetto stop, is a must - a large tree-lined street that crosses perpendicularly the strip of land connecting the lagoon to the sea, and which is home to many shops, restaurants and bars. Cycling in Venice with taste Unlike the historic center, cars and bicycles can circulate through the Lido di Venezia. Indeed, an itinerary that we suggest you to try at least once in your life is to cycle to discover this Venetian island: rent a bicycle and head from Gran Viale Santa Maria Elisabetta to Alberoni, a flat itinerary of about 10 km. The more trained can then get on the ferry boat and continue to the contiguous island of Pellestrina. Do not forget to enrich your excursion with tasty gastronomic stops: a mixed fried fish caught in the ancient village of Malamocco, a drink overlooking the lagoon at Alberoni or an aperitif at sunset at Murazzi, perhaps accompanied by some local “cicheti” (typical Venetian appetizer), or even one snack or sandwich filled with local ingredients at the characteristic red double-decker bus parked on the seafront during the summer season; and for those who visit Pellestrina a dish with the typical Mitilla mussels. Your visit to Lido di Venezia can be colored in different shades: cinema, art, sport, taste and relaxation ... it is up to you!

Finally, from June 25th we will reopen the doors of the Ca’ Pisani and we are ready to welcome our guests again. We have followed all suggestions of our security manager and complied with all the latest anti-Covid regulations to make your stay safe. For this reason, we have re-organized some services: here you will find a summary of the procedures which have been implemented. Our smile (even if covered by a mask) and our welcome are the same that make many guests to choose us year after year. We are looking forward to your arrival! Your safe stay in our hotel HYGIENE The cleaning and sanitisation of the common areas have been intensified. You will find stations with hand sanitizers at the passage points. Where possible, separate entry and exit routes have been created. INFORMATION You can check all protection measures from the information signs hung in different areas of the hotel. ROOM Before your arrival, your room will be sanitized with specific products. Cleaning is scheduled several times during your stay. If, you do prefer to minimize staff entry, please make an explicit request at the check-in. MASK You will need to wear your mask at check-in, check-out and to move inside the hotel. BREAKFAST We serve a continental breakfast at La Rivista Restaurant. TURKISH BATH We hope to receive positive updates from the Italian Government to make our Turkish bath available again as soon as possible. TEA / COFFEE CORNER Kettles and coffee machines had to be removed from the common areas to comply with anti covid hygiene rules, but our bar is open and offers drinks and a "light-menu" for a snack or a quick meal. LIFT The lift can be used by one person at a time or by several people if they belong to the same family. Today, get a look at Venice from another perspective. You, like us, will surely have been fascinated by its canals, calli and bridges, by the gondolas that make the Venetian capital a unique city in the world. But have you ever set your eyes towards the sky admiring the characteristic Venetian skyline and have you ever wondered what those strange wooden buildings built right above the tiles are? These are the roof terraces, typical panoramic terraces in Venice, protagonists of the Venetian evenings during the summer, mostly decorated with curtains to protect from the sun and colored with flowers and plants. The roof terraces, which are usually accessed through a dormer window, were built by the Venetians to get an outdoor space: a luxury that few can afford given the proximity between the buildings and the scarcity of gardens in our city. Their origin is so ancient, that even Carlo Goldoni mentions them in the comedy "La putta onorata" (1748): “Oh caro sto sol! Co lo godo! Sia benedetta st’altana!” (oh my dear sun! How I enjoy it! Bless this rooftop terrace!) The first major artistic event of 2021 takes place from May 22nd to November 21st: the 17th International Architecture Exhibition. "How will we live together?" is the theme chosen by the curator Hashim Sarkis: “The 2021 Biennale is motivated by new kinds of problems that the world is putting in front of architecture, but it is also inspired by the emerging activism of young architects and the radical revisions being proposed by the profession of architecture to take on these challenges. We need a new spatial contract. In the context of widening political divides and growing economic inequalities. We call on architects to imagine spaces in which we can generously live together.” Sarkis encourages architects to include in their research other related professions, such as artists, builders, and craftspeople, as well as politicians, journalists, social scientists, and everyday citizens. The 112 participants from 46 countries try to respond to the new issues that architecture has to face: the role of public space in recent urban riots, new reconstruction methods, new challenges that climate change is putting in front of architecture, the changing forms of collective housing across the globe, the architecture of education, the education of the architect and to explore the relationship between curator and architecture. The exhibition itinerary includes two main locations: the Central Pavilion at the Giardini and the Arsenale. A section dedicated to the theme "How will we play together?" with the works of five architects and an architectural photographer is proposed on the mainland at the Forte Marghera - Mestre. Also scheduled are side events and the Weekends on Architecture, a series of lectures and panels with architects and scholars from all over the world who will try to answer the question “How will we live together?”. Since Easter is approaching our desire for "fugassa", the traditional Venetian focaccia, is growing day by day. Also, because we love craft shops, today we are going to take you to discover of one of the oldest and best known Venetian pastry shops: Dal Nono Colussi. It is only 7 minutes from Ca 'Pisani: you will have to head to Campo San Barnaba along the Rio de la Toletta, which in the months of March and April offers a small show, with a mimosa plant that emerges from a private garden showing itself in all its beauty. Continuing on Calle Lunga San Barnaba you will come across the window of Dal Nono Colussi's shop. Fugassa, the traditional Venetian focaccia The origin of the Venetian focaccia is confused in legend. There are those who say it was a baker from Treviso who invented it first, while others trace its birth back to the local popular tradition, connected to Christian holidays, where people allowed themselves the luxury of using sugar, an ingredient that was still very expensive at the time. For this reason, it is reserved for important occasions such as Easter. Another legend is that it was the "official" sweet for engagements, given to the family of the girl chosen as a bride with the ring hidden inside. In all cases, however, the recipe for Venetian focaccia is a bread recipe with added butter, eggs, sugar and other spices (depending on who produces it) and a good dose of patience, since the procedure requires a long rising time. Today it can be found in Venetian pastry shops and bakeries especially during the Christmas and Easter periods, but there are those like Dal Nono Colussi who offer it all year round. Dal Nono Colussi, Venetian pastry shop since 1956 One of the many craft shops in the Dorsoduro District is Dal Nono Colussi pastry shop, famous above all for the production of delicious "fugasse venexiane", now available all year round. Founded in 1956 by Franco Colussi, known by all as Nono (a term that in Venetian dialect means grandfather), the shop first offered only traditional Venetian recipes and sweets of the time, and subsequently expanded its assortment to satisfy the tastes of customers who, in any case seem to prefer traditional sweets. It is now managed by the granddaughter who has decided to continue the family business with commitment and passion. The fugassa is the dessert that has received the most awards, a sweet, soft focaccia, without candied fruit, raisins or almonds,naturally leavened with sourdough starter, as tradition dictates, a tradition with which Nono Colussi has been producing these delights for more than 60 years. The twentieth century in every room: the Marzadori Collection

“For us, art is inseparable from life ". These are the words of Filippo Tommaso Marinetti, founder of the Futurist movement, which greet visitors to our website and this is the experience we want our guests to live when they choose to stay with us. The "life" at our hotel is steeped in art, taking our guests on an aesthetic journey through works of the twentieth century, which are located not only in the common areas, but also in the individual rooms. The rooms, although each one is different from the other, are artistic treasures that contain artifacts from the twentieth century: some originals expertly collected, and others faithful contemporary reproductions. At the end of 2019 they were further supplemented by the exhibition of common objects of the twentieth century from the Marzadori Collection, which were presented to the public in the exhibition "Ca' Pisani: il ‘900 ritrovato”, hosted in our hotel from March 27th to August 27th 2019. The Marzadori Collection on display at Ca' Pisani The works of the exhibition organized at Ca' Pisani are the fruit of thirty years of careful selection by the collector Maurizio Marzadori - founder of Freak Andò. This well-known Bolognese antique dealer, a lover of the twentieth century, has always collected common objects, toys, children's furniture, furnishing accessories, many of which were partly exhibited at the MOMA in New York (2012 in the exhibition “Century of the Child ”), at the Milan Triennale (2017/2018 at the“ Giro giro tondo ”exhibition), at the Archaeological Museum of Bologna (2003), at the Salaborsa Library in Bologna (2014) and in other prestigious museums and exhibitions. The exhibition "Ca' Pisani: il ‘900 ritrovato" retraced some of the main currents of the twentieth century, including Futurism, Déco, Rationalism and Aerodynamics up to the early 1950s. Among the artists on display were Ponti, Gariboldi, Diulgheroff, Mazzotti, Simonetto, Pacetti, Hagenauer, Bevilacqua, Baldelli, Lenci, Tavolara, Cambellotti, Bonazzi, "Cirillo" and many others, as well as authentic anonymous masterpieces. The exhibition itinerary began on the ground floor, in the reception and in the small sitting room, with suggestive twentieth-century rocking horses, then continued onto the first floor with common objects and finally on up to the second floor with Futurist toys and furnishings. The exposition aroused great interest from the public and was visited by more than 1700 people. The section of common objects was purchased in full by the Serandrei family to allow them to be a permanent part of the hotel experience, 20th-century treasures that perfectly blend in the setting of the Deco Design Hotel. The twentieth century in every room In each of our 29 rooms you will find one of the twentieth century works acquired by the family. These are everyday objects: cups, trays, glasses, statuettes, objects and more. Each one has been placed in the silver Art Deco console in your room and is accompanied by a small caption of explanation. Some pieces are characterized by originality, others have particular colors and shapes. You can come across, for example, a skier from the 30s in a coffee service from the 40s whose cups resemble boats made with leaves, or you will be delighted by the bright colors of some ceramic services in many varying shapes, or you can still admire an extraordinary 1940s watch. Choose your experience and you will find out on your arrival which object you will find in your room. This shows the love for art and attention to every single detail that has guided the hospitality philosophy of the Serandrei family since 1908 and that in the Ca' Pisani Deco Design Hotel has found its ideal location.

The Carnival of Venice is one of the best known and most appreciated events in the world. Every year, during this period, the city comes alive with masks, confetti, frittelle and galani (Carnival sweets), parties and events. This celebration has always attracted citizens and tourists to the historic center and is tinged with even more mystery and fun thanks to the traditions of the Venetian capital and its characteristics: a unique city built on the water, a labyrinth of narrow streets which open in “campi” and small squares that act as a stage for various activities. But do you know what is the origin of the Venice Carnival and what are the events not to be missed? Here below we are giving you a taste of it. The origins of the Venice Carnival The Venice Carnival has very ancient origins. There is a first written trace of it in an edict of Doge Vitale Falier of 1094 about entertainment and celebrations in the days preceding Lent, but it was officially named public holiday in 1296 by the Senate of the Serenissima Republic. The Carnival probably has a much older tradition and served as a way to give the population free play, a period in which social classes leveled off and irony on authority and aristocracy was allowed. By wearing a mask, people could transform themselves into what they wanted, thus canceling their belonging to a specific social class, religion, sex etc. In the 18th century the Carnival of Venice reached its maximum splendor, acquiring fame throughout Europe; the love adventures of one of the most famous characters in the world, Giacomo Casanova, date back exactly to this period. The Carnival originally began on December 26th, although some celebrations started in October, and lasted until the day before Lent. Today, however, events and shows are concentrated in the ten days preceding the Ash Wednesday. The main events of the Venice Carnival Each year the Venice Carnival focuses on a specific theme that becomes a common thread of all the events of the period and involves not only the historic center, but also the entire province. Here we present the events not to be missed, our suggestion is that you check the updated calendar on the official website Festa veneziana dell’acqua (Venetian Feast on the water) The latest editions of the Venice Carnival officially opened with a real show on the water, in Rio di Cannaregio. Boats, dances, water games and much more made this event truly scenic and engaging. The access can be limited: the show is therefore offered at various times and days to allow more people to participate. Volo dell’Angelo (Flight of the Angel) The celebrations in Saint Mark’s Square, the symbolic place of the Venice Carnival, open with the flight of the Angel: a costumed character descends "flying" from the top of the bell tower of Saint Mark’s to a stage where the Doge and the other masks in traditional costumes wait for her. According to the tradition, the person who acts the part of the angel is the winning Mary of the previous edition of the Carnival. Volo dell’Aquila (Flight of the Eagle) The flight of the eagle is the second descent from the top of the bell tower to Saint Mark's square, scheduled for the week following the Flight of the Angel. In this case, a prominent figure in current affairs, sports, entrepreneurship, music or entertainment is involved. La festa delle Marie (The feast of the Marys) The beauty contest that takes place during the Venice Carnival is named “Festa delle Marie”. Every year, usually on the first Saturday of the Carnival, twelve Venetian girls (selected in the previous weeks) are presented to the city via a fancy dress procession that winds from the church of San Pietro di Castello through via Garibaldi and Riva degli Schiavoni, to Saint Mark’s Square. This event recalls the homage the Doge used to offer to twelve beautiful Venetian girls by giving them jewels for their wedding. Giovedì grasso (Fat Thursday) It takes place on the last Thursday before the end of the Carnival and it is on this day that many events and parades in Venice and its province are concentrated. In Saint Mark’s Square there is usually the “Ballata delle Maschere con il Taglio della Testa del Toro” (Ballad of the Masks with the Cutting of the Bull's Head). The history says that in 1162 the Doge Vitale Michiel II overcame the patriarch Ulrico of Aquileia accompanied by 12 rebel feudal lords. As a tribute and compensation for this victory, the successors of the Venetian bishop had to offer the Doge a bull, 12 loaves and 12 pigs each year, an evident allegory of what happened, and all this ended with the cutting of the bull's head. Martedì grasso (Shrove Tuesday) The day before the Ash Wednesday, the Venice Carnival officially closes. The last flight from the bell tower of Saint Mark’s, called the "svolo del Leon" in Venetian dialect (the flight of the lion), celebrates the symbol of the city. The twelve Marys are waiting for him on stage: on this occasion the winner of the beauty competition is also presented, to end with beauty from every point of view!

A new year has just begun and we sincerely hope that it will bring serenity and health to everyone. Even if the future is a huge question mark at the moment, we are sure we will not stop traveling; of course we can't do it physically yet, but for sure we can go on exciting tours thanks to our imagination and the testimonies of friends and acquaintances. We therefore propose here an itinerary to discover the main festivities of the Venice lagoon, a year-long journey. Many are intertwined with the history of the Serenissima Republic, others are connected to some religious events: let's discover them together. Traditional Venetian Events- not to be missed! Carnevale di Venezia (Venice Carnival) After Christmas holidays, the Venetians eagerly await the Carnevale. For two weeks the city comes alive with masks and events that take place in the various districts. The main events such as the Flight of the Angel and the Eagle and the Festa delle Marie are held in Saint Mark’s Square. (again, I would use Italian names, San Marco, here as you already use Feste delle Marie which is Italian.) Unfortunately, due to the reasons we all know, in 2021 the program has been revised to avoid gatherings; but pastry shops and bars are already offering the typical desserts of the period: frittelle and galani! Festa di San Marco (Feast of Saint Mark) On April 25th the city of Venice; in addition to celebrating Liberation Day, which occurs throughout Italy; also celebrates its patron saint, San Marco. (Saint Mark) On this day Venetians give their loved ones a rosebud, in Venetian called bocolo. Festa della Sensa (Feast of the Ascension) In May, the Festa della Sensa is celebrated – in Venetian it means the day of Christ’s Ascension, and the Festa is related to the history of the Serenissima..Also known as the Marriage with the Sea, it offers a spectacular water procession of traditional rowing boats from Saint Mark’s basin to the Lido of Venice island with the launch of a ring in the water. Festa del Redentore (Redentore Festivity) One of the favorite events of Venetians, is the Redentore Festivity which takes place on the Saturday before the third Sunday in July; commemorating the end of a terrible plague (1577) which culminated in the construction of the famous Palladian basilica on the island of Giudecca, as a votive offering. Today Venetians make a pilgrimage to the Redentore church walking across the Giudecca Canal on a bridge made of floating boats. On Saturday evening an exciting fireworks display occurs in Saint Mark’s Basin, which is viewed from boats, along the banks of the canal and also can be admired from the panoramic terraces or from the characteristic rooftop terraces of Venetian palaces. Regata storica (Historical Regatta) On the first Sunday of September, you can breathe the ancient atmosphere of the Venetian maritime republic and the lagoon rowing tradition. The Historical Regatta, the main appointment of the Venetian rowing competitions, offers a splendid water parade with typical boats and figures in costume, which is followed by various competitions along the Grand Canal. It is a unique show in the world. Madonna della Salute On November 21st, Venice celebrates the Feast of the Madonna della Salute which commemorates the votive offering of the entire city to the Madonna for the end of a terrible plague between 1630 and 1631. To facilitate the pilgrimage to the Basilica, a temporary floating bridge over boats is built on the Grand Canal and along the calli there are candle dealers selling offerings to the Madonna, as well as sweets of all kinds. According to the tradition on this day you should eat a typical dish: the castradina made with mutton and cabbage.

Venice is a city rich in history, art and tradition. You can get lost in its calli and campielli in search of architectural details, historical references or even its magnificent views. You can visit the most renowned museums or discover the most sought-after art galleries. We also recommend you to take the time to discover its culinary traditions: a journey rich in unique flavours where you will taste the cuisine so loved by the Venetians. The influences that have permeated the Venetian capital over the centuries have helped to create a mix of unique flavours throughout the world, which satisfy even the most demanding palates. Of course, fish is king. In bacari (the typical Venetian taverns) as well as in the most renowned restaurants you will find many dishes with cod, cuttlefish, sea bass, sea bream and all other native species. In our magazine’s first date with Venetian cuisine, we have decided to share the secret of a simple, but also, tasty recipe which can be made for a Christmas celebration or on any occasion and will be much appreciated by your guests. Schie: the typical shrimp of the lagoon Schia is a term that in the Venetian dialect denotes a small person and for this reason is used as the name of the typical lagoon shrimp, which measures on average from 3 to 5cms (sometimes up to 9 cm.) It has a greyish colour and is found in the lagoon between Venice and Trieste especially during the winter months. According to our culinary tradition, schie are served in various ways, but one of the most famous is certainly polenta with schie. Polenta and schie: the recipe We asked the help of our Chef for this quick and easy recipe that you can try to reproduce at home: enjoy! Ingredients for 4 people 500 g of schie 400 g of soft polenta Extra virgin olive oil 100 ml Garlic (1 clove) Brandy 10 ml Salt and Pepper to taste. Parsley 2 liters of water 200 gr corn flour 30 gr butter Method For the soft polenta: Bring a litre of water to the boil, add the salt and the polenta. Cook over a low heat for a few minutes, stirring continuously. Meanwhile, boil the remaining litre of water and, when the polenta has absorbed all the cooking water, add a ladle of boiling water and continue stirring, as you would for risotto, for about 30 minutes. Finally, stir in a knob of butter and a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil. For the schie: While the polenta is cooking, wash and blanch the schie in water and lemon for 2 minutes, once cool, peel them one by one: given their small size it will take a lot of patience, but it will be worth it. In a non-stick pan, heat the extra virgin olive oil with the crushed garlic and chopped parsley, then add the schie and simmer for one minute with a drop of brandy. Once cooked, add salt and pepper and serve by placing the schie on the soft polenta. Buon Appetito!

We are pleased to share, with you, Ca’ Pisani’s important milestone: on November 30th we will celebrate the 20th anniversary of its opening, in a year that has been, is, and unfortunately will be, a quite difficult year for everyone. That is why we take advantage of this opportunity to bring a wave of optimism and positivity: happy 20th birthday Ca' Pisani! The opening of Ca' Pisani Our hotel was born from an idea of Ugo Serandrei, father of the current owners. Already at the helm of the Hotel Saturnia & International in Venice located in San Marco, managed by the Serandrei family since 1908, Ugo was also a lover of art and in particular of Futurism. The search for an original place for the exhibition of some of Depero's works led him to plan a new concept of hotel that differed from the Venetian hotel scene of the time. With the support and collaboration of architects, designers and collectors, the first design hotel in Venice was born. The boutique hotel according to Ugo Serandrei Ugo Serandrei had conceived the Ca' Pisani as a boutique hotel: where if a guest had appreciated a collectable piece seen in his/her room or in the common areas, it was possible to buy it. And this actually happened. Marianna still remembers a Russian client so in love with the briarwood bed in which she had slept, that she decided to get it and had it shipped to Russia. Later this concept weakened, partly due to the unique value of the pieces that furnish the Ca' Pisani and partly because of the emotional bond that Ugo's children now feel towards this little Art Deco jewel. To the point that last year they purchased a collection of 20th century objects from an antiquarian in Bologna: after being exhibited at the Ca' Pisani, the objects have become an integral part of the furniture of the rooms of the hotel. 20 years together On November 30th 2000, the doors of Ca 'Pisani Hotel in Venice opened to the public for the first time. The aim was to offer guests a unique experience, both for the concept (ours has been the first design hotel in Venice) and for our customer service: we do our best to make every guest feel at home, and pamper him/her paying attention to even the smallest details because they really make a difference. Today these principles still guide our work. We had hoped to celebrate our twentieth anniversary in a different way, but the events of this 2020 have changed everyone's life. However, we believe in optimism: #staysafe and happy birthday Ca' Pisani!

We invested a lot in the past months to offer our guests an unforgettable experience with maximum safety and all the staff did their best to respect the new procedures, always with a smile (even if hidden by the mask) and for this I am very grateful to all of them. Futurism: from the Ca' Pisani Hotel to the Peggy Guggenheim Collection

Speed, becoming and movement in space are the main cornerstones of Futurism, a current born in Italy at the beginning of the twentieth century that has involved all the arts, from painting to sculpture, from literature to music, and then spread also in the lifestyle of its enthusiasts. In cooking, for example, the Futurists rejected the recipes and terms traditionally used in this field, and created polybibites (which are nowadays called cocktails) such as Inventina, and formulas (substitute term for recipe) with really bizarre names (divorced eggs, drunk calf, likeacloud, etc.). You can taste some of them in our La Rivista Restaurant and you will find others in the 2020 calendar of the Serandrei family, a tradition that has been handed on since 1981. Depero at Ca' Pisani Futurism was one of the reasons behind the foundation of the Ca' Pisani Hotel: Ugo Serandrei, 4th generation hotelier and father of the current owners, had bought authentic Depero’s artworks and, looking for an original and not obvious place for their exhibition, conceived a particular hotel different from the Venetian hotel scene of that time. Thus the first design hotel in Venice, with the help of architects, designers and collectors, was born. You can admire the original works of art by Fortunato Depero upon check-in, during breakfast and on your way to the room. In the reception hall you can admire "Listen - Stop - Look" (1930), tempera and Indian ink on paper. When having breakfast, the eye will be enraptured by the bright colors of "La Rivista" (1925), the work the restaurant takes its name from. The color continues to amaze even in the second piece on display in this room, the collage of cards “Portatore – Tazza” (1929/1931). Finally, the artwork "Dalla serie Balli Plastici" (1925) hangs on the main staircase leading to the first floor. Futurism on display at the Peggy Guggenheim Collection Futurism was a movement of total change that broke with the past and so important that even the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, one of the most prestigious European and American art museums of the twentieth century in Italy, dedicates a special section to it. From our hotel you can quickly reach this extraordinary gallery (just 4 minutes on foot) to continue your stay dictated by art. You will come across Giacomo Balla's oil on panel (1871 - 1958) "Velocità astratta + rumore" (1913-14). Here the artist studies the impact of the speed of a car in the natural environment, also representing its noise, as onomatopoeia plays a great role (which is the reason why you can find these sounds on our website). To highlight how the pictorial reality expands into outer space, the brushstrokes come out of the canvas and involve the frame. “Mare = Ballerina” by Gino Severini (1883 - 1966), which is from the same year, is inspired by the sea of Anzio and represents the fusion between a ballerina's dress and the waves of the sea with brushstrokes of colors deriving from Neo-Impressionism. Also in this case the force of the sea is so disruptive as to involve the frame. You will have the chance to admire the sculpture “Dinamismo di un cavallo in corsa + case” (1915) by Umberto Boccioni (1882-1916). The artist uses different materials and blends the piece of art with the surrounding environment: horse and house are visually imperceptible and create a new entity. Other futurist masterpieces are present in the archives and have been shown in various temporary exhibitions in the past. Dorsoduro Venice: art, crafts, food and wine

Venice is a city rich in art and history but there is a district (which venetians call "Sestiere") that contains the artistic and university heart of the city: Dorsoduro. Unlike the neighboring Sestiere di San Marco, the calli and campielli of Dorsoduro are less crowded and hide unforgettable views of an authentic Venice. You will find some of the most important art museums in the city and you can plan your itinerary in the name of local crafts and food and wine. What to visit in Dorsoduro Basilica della Salute It is one of the most important Baroque churches in Venice. It is located in the Punta della Dogana area and is the backdrop for many photographs taken from the Accademia Bridge. Designed by Baldassarre Longhena, of Palladian inspiration, this basilica is the arrival point of a pilgrimage that takes place every year on November 21st on the occasion of the Feast of the Madonna della Salute, an ancient Venetian tradition, which commemorates the thanksgiving of the entire city to the Madonna for the end of a terrible pestilence between 1630-31. Zattere The Fondamenta delle Zattere overlooks the Giudecca Canal and connects the Maritime Station to Punta della Dogana, a path of almost one kilometer. It is the ideal place to stroll and enjoy the view. Campo Santa Margherita The hub of the neighborhood's social life, Campo Santa Margherita comes alive during aperitif hours, thanks , above all, to the proximity of some of the IUAV and Ca 'Foscari university location. Going along it towards the Accademia it is possible to cross the famous Ponte dei Pugni and admire the characteristic fruit and vegetable shop-boat. Museums and galleries Dorsoduro is home to some museums that art lovers should visit. Here are the main ones: Gallerie dell’Accademia with works by Venetian and Italian artists including Giorgione, Carpaccio, Veronese and many others; The Peggy Guggenheim Collection where you can admire the masterpieces of contemporary art (Duchamp, Kandinsky, Picasso just to name a few); Punta della Dogana with the Pinault Collection, home to various temporary exhibitions; Ca' Rezzonico, the eighteenth-century Venetian museum housed in a splendid Baroque palace; Palazzo Cini with its works of ancient art (including Filippo Lippi, Beato Angelico, Botticelli, Piero di Cosimo, Pontormo); Casa dei Tre Oci, famous for its photographic exhibitions; V-A-C Foundation, recently opened gallery and home to various temporary exhibitions. Squero di San Trovaso The squero di San Trovaso, housed in a wooden structure with the typical shape of a mountain house, is one of the oldest traditional shipyards in the city still active. Operating since the 17th century, gondolas, pupparini, sandoli, sciopòni and other boats typical of the Venetian lagoon tradition are still built here today. Craft shops Ca' Macana with its masks, Perlamadredesign and its creations with pearls, Canestrelli mirrors and Dal Nono Colussi focaccia are just some of the shops that carry on local craftsmanship between tradition and innovation. The new Ca’ Pisani website is online from the 21 July. We felt the need to renew our digital image to make our guests live the Ca’ Pisani experience from the first contact with us: the web. It is an original, dynamic site, full of unexpected details, capable of engaging and amaze the user step by step, a metaphor for what guests experience as soon as they cross the threshold of the Hotel: a unique environment in typical Art Deco style, with careful attention to every detail. This year we also celebrate the twentieth anniversary of the opening of the Ca ’Pisani Hotel and we thought it was the right occasion to propose a look that best represents our hospitality philosophy. The stylistic choices Graphics and colors reflect the unmistakable style that makes Ca ’Pisani a unique hotel in the panorama of Venetian hospitality. Textures, patterns, fonts and animations evoke curtains, fabrics, furnishings and artworks that you can find in the hotel and thus offer a 360 ° virtual experience of what the guest can then live first hand. Visiting the city is now a totally new experience: you can walk peacefully; museums, galleries and monuments, accessible mostly upon reservation and in small groups, allow you to admire their artworks with an attention previously not possible, merchants have more time to devote to customers. From our side, we took the time to test the new regulations thanks to the opening on May 29 (among the first hotels in Venice) of the Hotel Saturnia & International (the other structure managed by the Serandrei family in Saint Mark). What will happen when you arrive at the Hotel HYGIENE All rooms and common areas are cleaned and sanitized frequently.
